Privacy Policy

1. What Clarky does

Clarky Email is a mobile app that connects to your Gmail account and lets you triage your inbox by swiping: archive, delete, reply, snooze, dismiss, unsubscribe, and mark as read. All of these actions are performed directly between your device and Google’s Gmail API.

2. Google user data

When you sign in with Google, you grant Clarky the following OAuth scopes. We request only what the features you use require.

• gmail.modify — read inbox messages so we can show them to you, and apply the labels that implement your swipes (archive removes the Inbox label, delete moves to Trash, mark as read removes the Unread label, snooze temporarily archives and later restores).
• gmail.send — send a reply that you compose in the app. We never send messages you did not write, except a one-line unsubscribe request when you explicitly tap “Unsubscribe” on a message that offers a mailto: unsubscribe address.
• userinfo.email and userinfo.profile — your email address, name, and profile photo, used only to label your connected accounts inside the app.

Where this data goes: messages you view are cached in encrypted local storage on your device so the app works quickly and offline. OAuth tokens are stored in the device keychain (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore). None of this data is sent to Clarky LLC or any third party. We do not have servers that receive Gmail data.

Limited Use disclosure: Clarky’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically, we:

• only use Gmail data to provide and improve the user-facing features described above;
• do not transfer Gmail data to third parties, except as necessary to provide those features, comply with law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with prior notice to you;
• do not use Gmail data for serving advertisements;
• do not allow humans to read your data unless you give us explicit permission for a specific message, it is necessary for security purposes (such as investigating abuse), to comply with law, or the data has been aggregated and anonymized;
• do not use Gmail data to train or develop generalized artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models.

3. Data we collect on our side

Very little. Because the app has no backend, the only data that leaves your device is:

• Website analytics — this website uses Vercel Analytics, which records page views without cookies or personal identifiers.
• Purchases — if we offer a paid plan in the future, transactions will be handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play) under their terms, and we will update this policy before launch.
• Support — if you email us, we keep that correspondence to help you.

The app does not include advertising SDKs or third-party trackers.

4. Local notifications

If you use Snooze, the app may ask permission to show notifications. These are scheduled entirely on your device to remind you when a snoozed email returns. We do not operate a push notification server.

5. Retention and deletion

• Cached messages and tokens live only on your device. Removing an account inside the app revokes Clarky’s Google access and deletes that account’s local data. Deleting the app deletes everything.
• You can also revoke access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
• Support emails are kept for up to two years and can be deleted on request.

6. Security

OAuth tokens are stored in the platform keychain and never written to logs. Email content is cached in the app’s sandboxed, OS-encrypted storage. All communication with Google uses TLS. Email HTML is rendered in a sandboxed view with scripting disabled. The app requests the narrowest Gmail scopes that support its features and does not request full mailbox access (https://mail.google.com/).

7. Children

Clarky is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU/UK under GDPR or California under CCPA) you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to certain processing. Because we hold almost no personal data, most of these rights are exercised simply by deleting the app; for anything else, contact us and we will respond within 30 days. We do not sell personal information.

9. Changes

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the effective date. Material changes will also be announced inside the app.
